The Senses
The senses are the organs with which we approach to know and understand the world. They allow us to perceive what is happening around us. In the educational context, working through the senses and the information they provide us with enriches the children's learning experience and makes it easier for them to understand some concepts that would otherwise be difficult to explain.
Listening to sounds carefully and associating them with the right instrument, discriminating between the smell of one fruit or another, or differentiating between the texture of a stuffed animal or sandpaper are capabilities that are acquired when we are small through practice. The following games we present will allow children to train and learn through their senses in a fun way.
Children's games to stimulate the senses
A brain without stimuli does not develop. The child's sensory organs pick up stimuli of all kinds that are in the environment. This is why, thanks to sensory stimulation, the child will be able to perceive and understand the world around him/her better. First, the stimulation of basic functions, such as memory, is sought. Then, on that foundation, the higher cognitive abilities will be trained, where reasoning or creativity come in.
All of the above has led Akros to develop the category of sensory games, so that children can train and refine their senses in a programmed way, by choosing the most appropriate games and the learning that will take place. Such stimulation is particularly important for children with disabilities.
A systematic stimulation of those areas susceptible to improvement provides the child with tools for knowledge and increases organic functionality as the different pathologies allow. Another advantage of training in sensory skills is that it increases the child's self-esteem and improves his or her emotional health.
Sensory stimulation games
The games of Akros allow the development of the five senses in a fun way for the child. The playful component allows children to become more involved in their training, and not to take it as part of a therapy or work pending at school. The games have a simpler level that helps the basic handling of the five senses, with recognition of sounds, textures or smells.
For children who suffer from a disorder that affects the senses, the Akros line provides a series of games specialized in the rehabilitation or concrete training of a particular sense. It is important to note that, if the games are applied in the classroom environment, the rest of the children will become aware of the reality of their disabled partner and their integration will be facilitated.
Stimulation of proprioception
Proprioception is defined as the body's own self-awareness and directly influences balance and coordination; it is the body's ability to know and feel the relative position of its parts (muscles, limbs and joints).
Through the senses, the child understands the position of the body and its location in the environment. Thanks to proprioception, reflex responses are executed or planned motor actions are carried out. For this reason, stimulating the senses as a fundamental part of proprioception can help the child to improve in more complex actions, such as fine and gross motor skills, which in turn will affect his or her reading and writing skills, for example.
In the Akros shop you can find a multitude of games designed to help children develop and refine their senses: games of association and differentiation to stimulate their sense of smell, different types of bingos for the ear, cards to stimulate touch and reading and writing...
